Hmm I’m starting to wondering if the “Em doesn’t hang out with anyone” (besides significant others) narrative is being popularized by certain ppl so they have an excuse as to why Em isn’t seemingly buddy buddy with them outside of work shit aka they annoy him and the public can’t know that because again they use Em as a marketing tool for their own career
I do think Em is particular and has a very limited threshold with ppl he can deal with for a long time and have deep conversations with but judging by his recent interviews and him wanting to babble more than Paul has let him at times (many cases I can bring up) I think Em might be a bit more socialable then they try and let on.
Don’t get me wrong I still think he is introverted by nature but I hope he has friends (famous and not) that he group chats with and can watch and talk about sports with who aren’t toxic and dependent on him -doesn’t need to be a lot
He used to even have an imaginary football team with friends and Paul mentioned some friends of his that aren in the industry numerous times.
Again I think Em might be on the spectrum but the common misconception of ppl on the spectrum is that ppl think they don’t like having any friends. Nah they just are really really particular and don’t have fair weather friends (aka super choosie who they fully trust) and like to nerd out a lot and probably very territorial (aka Em said proof would have to take breaks from Em because Em was so smothering lol) They are also very good at reading ppl and patterns and also feel easily misunderstood so when they find someone that genuinely understands them they latch the Fuck on. Remember on the paul pod episode with the writer and they were discussing how another director was in talks to direct 8 mile and paul said Em had a meeting with him and was like NOPE! And that was that. I think that happens a lot with em. He seems to size ppl up pretty quickly and if he finds out they aren’t what he thought they were after giving them a chance he feels tricked and then angry/confused way more so than the average person (but that’s a different story)
But anyway I just don’t think certain gremlins make the cut with Ems threshold of patience and needs as a friend anymore unless its work BS and Em is playing nice for the cameras
And this is coming from a girl that is constantly worried about Ems seclusion. After opening my eyes a bit I don’t think Em is super secluded-i I just think he doesn’t particularly like to deal with his surrounding team (and I PERSONALLY think SOME of them make him anxious) so he makes excuses and dips. Again still think he needs his secluded alone time (and probably can go a while without seeing anyone) and probably doesn’t have a lot of patience and is particular and maybe a lot to deal with friends wise but I’m starting to take back some of my theories I had about him. Again still think he is a wall flower at parties and probably take a long time for him to trust and form a real bond with someone but I think or at least hope he has like one or two buddies (I hope for instance Elton and Ed are still close with him).

I read somewhere that he does have friends outside of business that he hangs out with. I’m sure he hangs out with his brother quite a bit and maybe a significant other if and when he has one. As far as not hanging out with some certain people, if he does have anxiety etc then he would definitely keep some people at arms length. Some people are draining to be around and I can imagine in his position that people always want something from him no matter how small of a thing it could be. |
