IDK, yes I agree with all of you and I too have voiced my opinions when it comes to Royce/Paul BUT is it also possible that behind the scenes he’s not as cool as we all think + desperate for attention?! I only say this because I’m reminded of a screenshot Paul once posted of a txt message exchange between the two of them and he then said “you should post this” - not sure why as it wasn’t funny or anything. . . He’s either gullible and wants to focus on his art or he’s a lot more involved/calculative behind the scenes but let’s Royce/Paul speak to certain subjects on behalf of himself in order to come across as if he’s above spending his time on social media - he’s busy working on his art, which is difficult to believe because why would a grown man allow someone else (Royce) shit talk his fans/go as far as to post memes of his bio-father and continue to be friends with them?! I’m beginning to think he’s not far off from Royce’s very opinionated none-sense but afraid to post so he lets Royce do the dirty work! I’ve also noticed that he only gets involved with other rappers (white) if they aren’t all that great (ex. Yelawolf) and while I still think his beef with MGK was another marketing shtick there is some truth in what MGK has said in the past regarding him “controlling” the scene. . . I feel sometimes they’re all trolling us! I’m disappointed as I once thought he was a lot cooler/smarter when he initially broke into the scene but these days he seems so desperate - I’m so tired of hearing him talk (and his crew) about the Top 5 and how “shocked/humbled” he is to even be considered as the greatest blah blah and yet says he is in every other song! I wish he’d stop associating himself with certain characters, stop with the corny marketing shticks, and enjoy life/live large and share with fans more than a lame pro post when he needs them to go buy his album - he has already made his mark and now it’s time to chill-out and be the cool dude he once portrayed himself to be (damn there’s more to life)! I don't get that vibe at all from him. I think he is highly intelligent and humble but I also think he is competitive and the mgk thing was not marketing. Mgks last rap album flopped and he had to switch genres to be successful and mgk still hates Em. If it was marketing mgk still wouldn't be this bitter idk sorry I just don't see Em the way you do. I do think he is calculated though but that's what makes Em fun. Dude is too smart just to sit at home and be bored/nice. I do think his team likes to undermine his inteleliguence tho to feel like they have a purpose and Em sometimes plays along just to appease them and I also think sometimes he gets caught up and if enough ppl get in his ear he get manipulated I also don't think Em is this little innocent guy but that's why I like him lol. I just also know that his self esteem can get easily bruised and that when I worry that he will be taken advantage of. I still think Em might have aspergers. It would explain a lot about his behavior. But yeah Em is never going to be someone who just sits at home and plays nice. That's not who Em is and that's why I love him. He is always plotting and thinking. Someone said that when they met Em (I think it was jimmy iovines son) that it was obvious Em was always thinking 24/7. I can relate because ppl said that about me and imo it seems like Em even has it worst so I couldn't imagine being like that lol. But yeah Em has never been a chill dude...he's just calculated with it. |

I fall somewhere between you guys. I blame Paul for a lot. I think Em said a long time ago that he wanted as little to do with the marketing/promotional side as humanly possible. He gave Paul carte blanche to do what he thinks will work and Paul has taken advantage of the independence. Hence the NFT "giveaway" for rich people and $300 bricks. I feel Em knows it's unusual. He just doesn't care, and accepts it because he is a creature of routine. He has accepted it like it's for his own good, because he has no interest whatsoever in this side of the industry. And this has caused a vicious cycle of being trapped in his own bubble even though he holds the pin to pop it.
Em appreciates his fans but let's face it, he isn't one to interact with them. At this point in his career he doesn't have to. Never again will we see Em walking the streets of New York interviewing people while doing a goofy sketch for MTV. He's introverted, he's hyper-focused, and he has created a world for himself that is very carefully regimented after living the first part of his life in total chaos. I think in his way he is trying to live a life of recovery and stay far away from old habits (but he's a lil drama queen and can't totally do it...that's another post tho). If Paul calls on him to talk rap on Shade 45, or to talk rap with Suede, or to talk rap with Ice T, that works for Em because it's what he loves to do. It sucks for his fans though because we don't want the rapbot all the time, we want Marshall. He's NOT chopped liver.
I have a hard time believing he could be that gullible. He's a smart guy. He doesn't miss a thing. Like, ever. Everything that is going on in this world from major events to pop culture trends, he knows about. But we aren't allowed to see this part of his personality. I think Paul and Royce try to keep the goofy side of Em hidden away. Whenever Em gets too comfortable in an interview and drops the facade even a little bit, Paul interrupts him and ends it.
I've heard a lot of rappers say he's weird. I see it when he's doing nerdy wordplay in videos and everyone around him is pretending to go along with it but they all think he's a dork. Well, I like Em, not Royce and Paul and Denaun. I want to see that side of him. I am so tired of this bizarre dance that is all about, like, side moves that will subtly put Em's mind on the track that they want him to move towards. I think they're all manipulators trying to make Em think these things are his ideas.
Remember when people were complaining he was too much of a shut-in and then suddenly there was a very calculated photoshoot of him getting nachos at 7/11? Someone sold that to him. Probably Paul. And he accepts it because wtf else is he going to do at this point in his career? He's not going to break the status quo.
I think it's a toxic and dishonest cycle that everyone goes along with for their own selfish reasons. I agree w/you Matty that Royce has weaseled his way into gatekeeper status. Em basically has a conservatorship like Britney. It's just unofficial.

Paul's behavior makes it seem like he is hiding something. Also I think this interview with Royce at 8:00 shows exactly what Royce thinks of em. But his playful personality and his nerdiness is what fans love about Em. And like you said it's like Paul tries to prevent ppl from seeing Em just be himself for whatever reason. He legit sounds sad when he is rambling along and Paul stops him and tells him to hang up. Like fans LIKE listening to Em ramble. He has a lot of interesting things to say. Yeah he is a bit nerdy but that's why we love him. Let him nerd out damn it. What are u trying to hide? I wonder what’s going on behind the scene and why Paul/Royce have so much say in what he does - it’s possible he doesn’t care anymore and goes with the flow (saves a headache or two) - but very weird!
