Has anyone considered or have gone on a vegetarian diet?
I have been watching a lot of vegan videos on youtube lately and documentaries. And I have to admit its getting to me. The way animals are slaughtered...it just makes me sooo sad-(dont watch videos on youtube from vegans if you want to sleep and night and still eat meat haha). Plus with all the effects to the climate?
Here's the thing- I am the biggest meat eater-like multiple times a day. So its not something I can realistically do over night. I am thinking about cutting out beef and ham and such first (i.e. cows and pigs) because I dont eat them as much as i do chicken..and I think I want to slowly cut out chicken -because that is going to be the biggest struggle for me.
I dont even want to think about becoming a vegan. That is something that would be extremely hard for me! but if I give up meat for over a year or so maybe I can slowly take it out my diet...
Idk I am still researching this but what are your thoughts? I am not even gonna mention it to my friends/family until I actually feel like I have a handle on it and have been successful for a few months because i dont want to seem like a hypocrite if i slip up -which Im sure i will...im telling you-im 90% carnivore haha so this will be challenging.

I have mostly been a vegetarian since my teen years--for the reasons you just mentioned. I am sooooo sensitive to the suffering of animals, I just can't stand the thought of where meat comes from. I'm not a true vegetarian though. I'll rarely eat chicken, turkey or fish (don't especially like it though). I will eat eggs and all kinds of milk products too. But I haven't had any beef or pork for 20+ years and never felt like I've missed out on a thing. Meat grosses me out honestly.

I think I will still eat fish (for now) because I really enjoy it and not as sensitive towards them. My first goal is to give up pig and cow products...and go from there. baby steps... in regards to being vegan cheese would be the biggest struggle omg...that and eggs haha.

Well, eating a vegetarian diet is not hard for me. I have like zero desire for meat--so it's not all that admirable, lol. But I don't think a vegan diet is especially good for you, very tasty--or very practical. Imagine trying to bake without eggs and milk. You'd be missing out on a lot of nutrients if you cut out all dairy products too. And I love my cheese and yogurt.

kat531 well its admirable to me anyway! haha- did you ever watch cowspiracy? I'm watching it now and omg Im torn on the vegan thing. Animals still get tortured for certain things like dairy but perhaps if I am just smart about the products i choose...idk. i will have to do more research on it. but you are very right-baking would be a struggle. heck-cooking in general would be tough.

No, I absolutely avoid watching anything like that. When I say I'm sensitive, I'm REALLY sensitive. I'll get images stuck in my head forever and almost get PTSD symptoms about what I've seen or heard--like having flashbacks of the images coming back to haunt me. I don't know how much cows get tortured for dairy products, but I probably shouldn't ask too much about it either because I don't really want to know too much. The collection of eggs can be an issue I know, but there are many stores and restaurants these days that insist on using eggs collected from humane conditions. Actually, it's the same for milk products. You can find lists of stores/ restaurants who only obtain food from farm animals living in humane conditions.

It is interesting when people describe that milks purpose is to make a baby cow into a huge 1500 pound grown cow as fast as possible. Kinda makes you wonder if humans were ever meant to start drinking it/using it... Idk its an interesting topic anyway. but i agree with you with finding stores that raise animals humanly for dairy products would be the best option for now

I'm a carnivore; I need protein, protein and more protein. When I was in college my boyfriend was vegan. We lived together and I ate, breathed and cooked more vegetarian dishes then I care to remember. Eggplant lasagna, stir fry tofu with brown and veggies, tons of Chinese and plenty of Italian. After 2 years I knew our romance was at the end when I made a vegan dinner for him and ribeye steak for me! I have never looked back, and I tend to eat less meat then most and one of my fav dishes that I make is lobster gnocci with spring vegetables. Yum!

Am I the only one who never even tried to be vegetarian or vegan? I love meat but I never really been so crazy about it, I even spended a few years eating less meat bc we couldn't afford it but always kept a balanced diet (meaning eating everything), now in my boyfriend's house his family eat meat at least once a day and I miss my only fruit and salad 2 days of the weak...my mother in law had noticed it bc everyone else don't eat her salads and she always make a bit extra for me although I should really eat better or I'm not escaping diabetes this year and I'm getting fatter everyday so tomorrow after my exam in the University I'm going to a gym to see if I can pay at least for 3 times a week I know I will feel better emocionally if I feel and look better in the outside plus I will be able to disconnect from all the problems and tension in my life...Anyway, I've been what you can call vegetarian when I did the Dukan diet some years ago...and I don't recommend it to anyone, then I learned (at least for my organism) I need to eat a bit of everything ..plus I would never be vegan, I can't imagine the world without yogurt

I love meat too much to give it up, especially bacon in pasta carbonara lol I tried a diet where I ate salad every day, to lose weight, although I had a little chicken in the salad at times so that wasn't a vegetarian diet, lol, but I just remember I felt hungry most of the time. So that wasn't really for me. I also love ham on my sandwhich But as for the vegan diet, not for me... I couldn't survive without a lot of products that aren't for vegans. And I love baking and like someone mentioned vegan baking is not the same as normal baking. I'm not a big drinker so I could do without alcohol so I wouldn't have to keep track of what I can drink and not, but I love my clothes and shoes and bags... My friend is a hardcore vegan and it sounds so complicated when he talks about what kind of clothes and shoes he can wear and can't wear, and what kind of bags he can use or can't use... And he talked about shampoos and soaps and stuff so being vegan is so much more than just the food, that would be too complicated for me

I was a vegetarian from 11 years old until I was 27. I became one because I loved animals and I read in some magazine that my favorite singer at that time was a vegetarian. I stopped when I was 27 because I was pregnant and my husband and mother in law thought the baby would be born with 12 toes or something if I didn't eat meat. After having her I went back to being vegetarian, then had another baby, then went back after the third baby I just stopped trying all together. It was too hard (and expensive) to be a vegetarian and live in a house of meat eaters LOL Although I am seriously thinking of doing it again. I eat meat but I never crave it, wait I take that back lately grilled chicken has been on my must have list. I think because I have started dieting and following weight watchers and grilled chicken breast are really low in points The thing I missed most about eating meat silly as it sounds was Heinz 57 sauce...it took me a few years to realize I could eat it on french fries and keep it moving!

It has helped with my anxiety a bit also, I still get it but not everyday like before.

I think exercise is a way of life. If you want to feel & look good, relieve stress, increase your energy and eat (I live to eat, I don't eat to live!) then exercise is imperative. I am not a fanatic, but I do work out 5 days a week. Monday & Friday I do Boot Camp; Tuesday it's Pilates, Wednesday, if my work schedule allows, I play golf (I'm on a women's league) and Saturday I do a workout with a private trainer. You probably think I am a fanatic, but I'm not. Seven years ago I started to lose my upper body strength and I gained some weight so I may a pledge to myself to take care of myself better and I have never looked back. Not only do I feel healthy and my skin is glowing, but I get compliments on my figure. It's worth every grunt and now I can lift things without worrying about throwing our my lower back. My upper body strength is back with a vengeance!
