Taylor has an aptitude for marketing that most artists don't have. First week sales are a bit more complicated in the streaming era, and marketing that first week largely depends on the conversation created surrounding the album. Longevity is increasingly important as well, albums have longer lifespans because fans can create hits organically. This benefits an artist like Em as we've seen with Superman and Mockingbird taking off. Taylor and Lil Nas X are currently the best when it comes to marketing, IMO. Honorable mentions to Lizzo and Cardi. If Em is satisfied with 230 million dollars and GOAT status and is happy to do less promotion and make less money in exchange for some inner peace, good on him. I wouldn't expect him to do lives and campaign the way that other artists do. His team really does suck, though. They're just so out of touch with fans and the way people consume media, and it seems like when they do try to be modern they fall for scams (NFTs--they got burned with both the auction and BAYC).

Em needs Taylor’s marketing team man Ems team spends a year advertising an imaginary ape and with mtbmb sideb you couldn’t even find that shit on iTunes for the first few hours It’s like they want Ems music to flop lately so they can spend more time on Paul’s shitty side projects I don't think any other artist does marketing like Taylor, and a lot of that is her willingness to work too, Em honestly looks like is comfortable just doing the bare minimum. An artist of his calibre could get a much better team so unless he is in some sort of Britney-esque situation where he is unable to propose ideas or make decisions it means it's not only his team but himself too. I definitely agree Em's team could do a much better work (not shipping vinyls on first week? No good playlisting? Overpriced limited merch?) independent of him. The problem with that even if Em wasn’t in a quasi Britney situation there’s always legal paper work that Em will have to fight himself. He can’t just fire ppl by snapping his fingers. And Em is way toooo loyal and way to easy to manipulate or too much of a ppl pleaser. I don’t think they even need to get rid of Paul. That might be too traumatic for Em since he has clear abandonment issues and social anxiety issues (that I think his team takes advantage of) but he does need to clean house and and add new creative blood. I have my thoughts on his situation but this isn’t what this post is about. It’s more on how to save his ducking career at this point. If I was Ems team this would be my thought process: There is NO reason to have Royce around. Em never seems happy when he is in the room with him. There relationship is weird and toxic. Revival was SO bad that Em doesn’t even want to advertise anymore and Royce and Denaun were making mean girl comments about Em the entire roll out in front of his face and during Instagram lives where they thought no one would see. It’s like they were happy Em was failing so they could scoot Royce in (Denaun produces for him). If Taylor swift or Beyoncé had someone who spoke about Em and used Em and kept snakes like Joe budden around him and defend Joe after all Em did for Royce they would be GONE. It wouldn’t even be a thought process. It would be like “bye felicia!!“ and keep it moving to greatness. Dre saw royces angle 25 years ago and guess what when’s the last time u saw a Dre and Royce picture? RESPECT UR CLIENT PAUL. But instead Paul acts like Royce is the blueprint to Ems career which makes NO sense because it’s like taking a step BACKWARDS for Em. Affiliating himself with these bozos is just gonna make ppl look at Em as shady whiney scam artists who just care about competitive rap on the internet. and Paul shoving him in our face and having Denaun and crook compare Em with Royce and Joe is so BEYOND TOXIC AND BAD I WANT TO SCREAM. U keep telllinf fans they are the same fans are gonna start seeing Em as these whiney two faced scammy brats. I’m already on the edge of that. So stop giving Royce and Joe a platform (because giving Royce a paltform is giving Joe access still) and MOVE ON FROM 1997 When Royce was relevant to Ems history in a positive way. If Royce said some of the things he said about Em for no reason publically imagine what he is saying and doing behind the fucking scenes They don’t treat Em like the biggest selling rap artist in the world. Even during the Paul pod episode with em it’s like Paul down graded Ems status. I genuinely don’t know if he does it on purpose or it’s just not clicking in Paul’s head. I go back and forth with him like I said a million times. But Ems associations have been 100% the reason for his career tanking And u know what’s SO funny??! Em career started to get better as soon as Em shut out Royce and even Denaun after revival and worked alone. During that time both Royce and Denaun were complaining about Em not being around and that’s the time they got the heaven studios (I think Em was like y’all need to get the fuck away from me and my studio). Once Em distanced himself his music got better and he is SLOWLY starting to relax again. Also revival was HEAVILY influenced production wise by Denaun. He doesn’t even help creatively. Em needs younger ppl in his camp (and I hate to say that cuz I’m 100% against ageism) to help bring in new fun creative things Em can do. Scrub his socials that look like a Facebook mom makes and for the love of god STOP ACTING LIKE EMS FANS ARE ALL 12!!! market to older people. Quit with the hehehehe look how big da bong is!! Quit with the vapid questions and the same stories for the past 15 years. If Em doesn’t want to be personal anymore (which he has the right) that fine but then focus ur music on relatable story telling concept songs. Can u imagine if Em wrote a story out of songs on his album? Like every song is a new chapter in the story?? That would be SO fun to market and play out and they could even hire actors for the videos if Em didn’t want to be in it. He could help direct/produce. Imagine a psychological thriller type thing?? And quit with the rappity rap talk. If I hear one more song with crooked and Royce and joell and black thought talking about how great they are I’m screaming. And for the love of god leave the bozo internet thots (aka Royce and his minions) BEHIND. Before u become one. eta: if they did that concept album, if it’s done right, it could be even made into an actual movie or play!! Get that EGOT!! Em is SOOOO good at story songs. It would be DIFFERENT and exciting and I think Once Em thinks of a concepts he would have SO much fun writing it and creating story lines. Challenge urself dude and not just challenging u word play.

I didn’t want to be a thread hog and quote 6 posts but YES to all!
I admit, I was honestly disgusted with Taylor’s money grab this time around, all the special editions to create the clock are one thing but I thought it was repulsive to do the “surprise” 3am version 3 hours later which required everyone to guess what? But yet another album to get the rest of the songs. That’s uncalled for.
However, much like Em’s fans, Swifties are loyal. What is Em’s team doing? Nothing. I put more responsibility on them because it’s their jobs to keep him out there. I give him more of a break than I should mostly because there’s one thing (actually there’s quite a list) that has been proven over the years and that is his work ethic. He’s willing to work. He works. I realize his own issues (trust, isolation, low self issues due to his lack of education) have probably made him hand over more power than he probably should have. But there’s no reason for everything to be as bad as it is.
It’s not even about younger, it’s about having your finger on the pulse. I was shocked to find out a lot of those at universal creating Taylor’s merch are older than me and I’m over 39. What about tapping in to things that would interest us, are high quality, not high cost? Taylor’s team has merch for every era. What if we could have cool stuff? I’d be down for a charm bracelet, more Em books, things like that.
I feel like all these people are sitting there with cushy jobs just doing what they want because they know he won’t stick up for himself and the fans well, Paul treats is like we should be grateful for his overpriced crap.

I am so glad you brought up the education, because I have noticed that in a couple of interviews he has made reference to his education. In one older interview on Rap City he made a comment about how he is illiterate, and on the Mike Tyson podcast when Mike was saying how he has made mistakes in the past and he said something about yeah, because he has an 8th grade education. He also talks a lot about being proud his daughters got a good education and went to college. It is obvious he is insecure about that. I wish someone would inspire him to take some course in college or even get a degree. Oprah did it after she became a billionaire and she said even though people said she didn't need it, it did a world for her self-esteem, because knowledge is power. He needs to open himself up to learning new things, that is how we grow. He has had a magnificent rap career, but I am sure there are so many other things he can do equally well, even though he always says rap is all he knows. I think he is empowered by that because he is so fabulous at it. He should cultivate something else, sometimes I wonder how he will handle it when rapping isn't viable for him anymore in the form he is use to.

Which boils down to insecurities and self esteem issues not the actual lack of education. Look at everything 50 has accomplished. It’s about stepping up with your ideas then dictating it to others, not hiding behind as they steer the ship because you’re afraid. He has incredible work ethic so I don’t understand why he doesn’t do more to educate himself, take more control of his empire. He has to get out of that comfort zone.

He has incredible work ethic so I don’t understand why he doesn’t do more to educate himself, take more control of his empire. He has to get out of that comfort zone. You are so right about the comfort zone. He has said he is a creature of habit. That mentality will keep him in a box. I remember Oprah was asked what inspired her to do it and she said her dad did. She said he told her no matter how powerful or rich you are, that can be taken away with the snap of a finger, but they can never take away your education and what you learn. That has stayed with me. She also said you have to do things for yourself, not others, but it helps to have someone in your life that inspires you to achieve more. Marshall had Hailie. But it's like he doesn't have that kind of motivation anymore. It would be great if he met a book smart woman, maybe someone with a college or grad degree, who doesn't need or care about his fame or money that helped push him out of his comfort zone. I remember once Kim said she wanted to be an interior designer. I wish she would have pursued that because she would have developed her own identity and who knows, if that would have helped build her confidence and she had her thing, they may have worked. Sometimes relationships don't work because people aren't equally yoked and one partner doesn't have a sense of self or something that makes them feel "special" or valued. I remember Kim was asked in an interview if she has a job and you can tell by her voice she was offended and she sharply responded, "I raise my kids, that's my job." I think that is one of the most important jobs a man or woman could have, taking care of and rearing their kids. But your kids are not your identity and I truly believe that everyone needs something special to them. It can be a career or hobby. But something that makes them feel good about themselves. But I digress, I think he needs a new source of inspiration, whether it be through a hobby or a person.

Sorry for being off topic but Midnights is a really great album. Anti-hero could have been written by Em (with more words, a lot more words, but the theme is there).

Happily ever after comes with its own set of problems, issues. Everything shifts. Problems and insecurities get replaced with new ones. He fought for the financial security so his family would have a better life. He comes from a lack mindset. So now that he made it, he’s probably afraid of losing it. Not the fame but the security. Given that he’s surrounded by so many people who were able to let go of those fears and evolve, I’m honestly surprised he hasn’t Even more so considering his very hard self work in the 12 step community. He lives in a bubble of his own creation which isn’t healthy for many reasons. His low self worth is keeping him from having more of a role, actually the role he should have over his work, business, what he invests in. I’m curious how much gaslighting has occurred over the years with those who work for him. It’s almost like he doesn’t comprehend that he’s the boss. I’ve hoped for years that he would meet someone like that. But given his bubble, I imagine that many women he has met over the years were subjected to some uncomfortable meddling that lead to their exit due to on hangers not wanting to lose their position. I even held and still hold hope now that his kids are grown maybe that would open up some space in his life. That has always broken my heart for Kim. I truly believe her when she said she never wanted to be famous. That infamy has held her back in life, aside from parenting which is the hardest job in the world, she has never had the ability to indulge in a career or interests of her own. But this is all a long winded way of saying I’m with you on this. I believe he needs both. Not just a new person but some new people and some hobbies. Midnight is great. I am surprised how much I like it.

I am surprised how much I like it. Is Midnight a track? I don't think I have heard it before. josie78, why do you think Eminem is so insecure at this stage in his life. I know we both have said education played a factor, but with all the "yes" men probably telling him how fabulous he is, you would think some confidence has come, especially since he is fire with his lyricism. Regarding Kim, I really don't have much sympathy for her because women overcome every day, some in worse shape than her who are single moms with no father in sight, no family help, yet they not only survive, but put themselves through college, get careers and take care of multiple children. She had all the tools to push forward, maybe except mental and she had the money to get the therapy. Marshall had similar limitations and at one point had to be the full time parent and a world famous artist, so I will not be shedding any tears for Kim. I have volunteered for programs and seen women with a lot less resources at their fingertips, but do way more and some of them had deep mental illness, and some have to deal with physical abuse and racism on top of it. Those women are true heroes in my eyes. But, I get where you are coming from.
