The Democrats control the House, they control the Senate and they control the White House.  There is no reason they can't get a bill passed and signed that keeps abortion legal on a federal level.  Except it doesn't look like that is what they plan on doing.  All I have heard them say is "vote Democrat in November to make abortion legal".  But they can make abortion legal NOW and they are not doing it.  Besides, Democrats are going to lose in November...too many bad economic numbers and too many people struggling.  That always takes precedent over anything else.  

I can't be mad at Republicans.  They have been shouting from the roof top that this is what they wanted since Roe V Wade was decided.  It took them 50 years, but they played the long game.  And during that time, the Democrats did jack shit to codify RvW into law.  Obama ran on codifying it into law and then once elected (with a super majority in Congress), he said it wasn't a priority of his.  Bill Clinton had a Democrat Congress and he did nothing.  Jimmy Carter had a Democrat Congress and he did nothing.  NOTHING.  The Democrats did NOTHING and they will continue to do NOTHING.  Dems have used the abortion issue to raise money and campaign on.  They never intended to make it the law, and  it doesn't look like they intend to do it now. The plan looks to be to continue to raise money around the issue instead of actually doing something.  Again, we don't need to elect more democrats, there are enough NOW to pass a bill and get it signed into law. NOW! Come January 23, Republicans will control Congress so something needs to be done now or it literally will be never.

I guess it will be up to the states to slug it out.

I agree, democrats are disappointing and ineffectual against Republicans who are successfully stripping women's rights to their own bodies over religious beliefs like this is a third world theocracy! Does the fact they've always been backwards af make it not evil?

Dems have been dancing around abortion forever, not wanting to seem too radical or piss off religious moderates that might vote for them. There are also many logistical problems they've faced or are facing that are continuing to block progress.

And let's face it, a lot of them thought this would stay a wedge issue forever, especially when you had potential SCOTUS judges literally swearing on a Bible they weren't going to mess with a superprecedent. But they lied and everything is different now that we have a far right conservative majority on the SC. I predict in 2024 when/if Republicans win there will be an outright national ban.

Anyway progressive democrats are actually addressing this, here's republican enemy no 1 AOC:

- Repeal Hyde
- Hold floor votes codifying Griswold, Obergefell, Lawrence, Loving, etc
- Vote on Escobar’s bill protecting clinics

We can do it!
We can at least TRY

So hopefully something works and dems don't just use it as a fundraising point to get reelected, promising yet again "we'll do something...once we win."

I don't think we can ever progress with religious fairytales (not sorry) dictating policy.
