People are very divided with this song. I have never seen Em's fans be this divided by a song. I wonder if a lot of these people actually listened to the lyrics and got the message. They only seem to be caught up on the fact that there's no "real beat", just the piano. It's almost 50/50. Like either they listen to the message and love the song, or they listen to the beat and don't understand it. Or the other division, either they love Beyonce (some even say she's the only good thing about the song) and others hate her part even tho they're fans of her, even saying she's ruining the song. Very interesting. And then of course we have the Trump supporting former Em fans, that are just hating for the sake of hating, lol! I think the ones that hate it because there is no real beat probably don't have much interest in other music besides catchy or angry songs. Also they are probably under 25 and therefore appreciate beats more so than lyrics Which would explain Em's anxiety with the whole mumble rap crap going on. Em is a lyricist and younger fans just don't really understand it. I don't really care tbh. Em has such a huge fan base that he could still be number one with half his fans hating his song lol. I have a feeling the album is gonna be geared toward a more grown audience and I'm not hating on that I think I might take a break from twitter and other sites though for a while because we get an eminem album every 4 years. I want to enjoy this one without a bunch of kids screaming "but where's the beat?! " MMLP2 he seemed to cater to the youngins with Rihanna and trying to do the whole slim shady thing. I felt like he couldn't really be himself back then because he was catering to a specific crowd that he really wasn't a part of anymore. Now that he is being reflective and trying to get personal again people are angry. I don't want generic singles and I like that he took a big risk with this song But yeah I have not problem with people being critical of Em's music but all the criticism I heard has been so pathetic. Like "there's no real beat!!" "Why isn't he angry??!" There's not a conversation about it. Just people that want either relapse Em or a bunch of rap god songs. They think rapping fast is the only sign of a good track

How can people say there's no real beat? There was a beautiful piano melody. Just because there are no drums it doesn't mean there is no music. People are just stupid. It breaks my heart that people don't like the song honestly because to me it's so beautiful, personal, and meaningful. And I love the beat, Beyonce's singing, and all the emotion Em poured into his voice. I know you can't force personal taste but I still don't get it, haha. Less than 2 hours for EMA! Hope I can find a stream that works.

Beginning of the video, talking about "Walking on water" if you cares. I think they made some good points. But I still love the song and the vulnerability, I guess his female fans are generally more going to like that kind of songs.
Budden also doesn't think the single is going to reasonate with the rest of the album.
But jeez no wonder Em is doubting himself when people are reviewing his single with details. I don't even know what fans are expecting anymore. I don't feel like people are analyzing Jay-Z or other artist that much, or is it just an impression?

Yeah, they are analyzing JayZ this much as well, mainly because his album was so personal - admitting he cheated on his wife. There are rumors that he has had to cancel concert dates because his tickets aren't selling. Jayz supposedly went off at his concert last night (or maybe the night before) saying the rumors weren't true and that people are out to get him because he supports the Kapernick guy. Honestly, I don't think his tickets are selling out stadiums and it is making him paranoid. But paranoia is part of the personality of most artist/creative types. Jayz isn't at the top anymore and most of his current popularity comes from being Beyonce's husband. He gets a lot of crossover from her fans. I thought 4:44 was good but Jay will always be good. His great days, however, are over. I fear the same may be true for Em. We'll have to wait and see what the album has to hold.

Dj akademics is an idiot He complains that he wants older artists to be wise and all that jazz and mature Then Em comes out with a mature single And he is still pissy? I'm sorry tcat I don't agree with u. Older acts are still good including jay and Em. People just like to nit pick and everyone has diff wants or needs and are mad when it's not exactly what they expect. Plus their content is gonna be for people that might be closer to their age rather than the young kids and that's okay. 10 year olds can have mumble rap

I fucking hate having to agree with Budden, but I do I am desperately hoping that he DOES take on mumble rap. Remember when we were hearing about 2-Chainz on that song? Maybe that's the content of the album

I think his points about Em caring deeply about the state of hip hop are good, and if Em comes in and spanks this generation of clowns, I think he could net himself something as epic as the MMLP

Yeah, he clearly is kept at a distance from Em and isn't close with him, which at least makes me glad

Yeah, he clearly is kept at a distance from Em and isn't close with him, which at least makes me glad Also I don't want Em to try and "spank" the new clowns i just want him to ignore them. I just want a raw album that's more personal and more open and perhaps a bit political he already tried to attack the new school on mmlp2. It was good but he doesn't need to try and do it again. I hope ole revival just ignores hip hop in a sense. And he just did him and what he feels and says what he wants to say. The thing is when he was younger her had a lot more things going on that he was open about besides the concept of rap. Now that's alllll he focuses on. I hope this album continues to show that Em is still human who doesn't just sit in his mansion and obsesses over the state of rap. But he has other things going on that he wants to share

Plus their content is gonna be for people that might be closer to their age rather than the young kids and that's okay. 10 year olds can have mumble rap I said Jayz was still good and probably always will be. I said his days of being GREAT are past him. It is true that rap is a young man's game. I don't listen to rap much anymore, except for a few artist that have been around 10+ years. Like I think Drake is good, but nowhere near great and I don't understand why he was so popular and being compared to the truly greats, like Em and JayZ. Nope, not even close. I think Em and Jay today are better than Drake. But I HATE that mumble rap shit out today. HATE. IT. But their content doesn't resonate with younger people because they haven't really lived life yet and older people move on past rap and don't listen to it as much when they get older. That's the problem these guys are in. It's a catch 22 for them. I never said JayZ or Em weren't any good. I just said that JayZ is past his being "great" days and we will have to wait and see what Em's album has to offer to see where he stands. One other thing I want to point out, I think Rick Rubin is also past his prime. I have not liked most of the stuff he has produced for hip hop artist. I know he also was great at one time but I think those days are over for him as well.
