Thought the board could use some more Eminem focus. And I am getting psyched for this album! :6z
Interested to see what everyone is hoping for. If you choose concept album or other please elaborate on what concept you want or what you mean by other

also I think pure rap doesn't equal rappity rap
rappity is slaughter house's sub genre.. rapping about rapping w/ no subject matter
pure hip hop, is Biggie, old Em, Ma$e ... which I want too

I dunno. I just want to be convinced we're actually going to see Em again and that there really is going to be an album. I can't feel too hyped about anything right now.
But of the choices above, I'd probably pick the concept album idea. I do want at least a couple of real songs about what has been going on with his life and what has been going through his mind. Because that's the only way we're ever really going to know anything remotely personal about him again. I'd be thrilled with another album like Relapse though--but with a different subject matter. And good production. That's the biggest thing I want this time around. Good, clean, consistent production.

Good concept songs and a cohesive well produced album with a good flow. I really doubt he's gonna do that technical rappity stuff for a whole album.

Voted for soulful tbh. I don't know if that's what I meant, but I'd love it if he could slow it down a bit. If he would have an album with songs like Seduction and The Hills remix, I'd love that. And especially if he'd rap in the voice he has at the beginning of Beautiful Pain. That voice drives me crazy. <3 someone mentioned Cocaine with Jazmine Sullivan, and I've actually been listening to it quite a lot recently. More songs like that please. A concept album is fine too. I don't know if it would work, but if he doesn't wanna talk about his personal life, a story telling album, like Stan + Bad Guy style (not that specific story, but in style with those), would be cool. I don't know if it would work with an entire album but then Em could probably pull it off if he wanted to. And I could also have chosen the "I don't care! Em can poop on every song and I'll still buy it" option, lol! Because I really just want SOMETHING from him! I've been listening to his old songs and hyping myself up for the new album, and I can't wait anymore soon. I really want something now, lol! And as many of you know, I'm a very easy-to-please-fan. Em could probably say blah blah for 5 minutes straight and I would probably love it, hehe

wow i am surprised so many people went with concept!
I am torn between soulful and concept to be honest. Last year I really wanted a concept album but now I am leaning towards soulful.

I'd choose soulfull or real hip hop (not rappity) for the same reasons stated by others.
What is concept? Like MMLP2 was concept because he revisited and put a conclusion to MMLP? There's still songs that didn't fit on that album, that had not really a link to MMLP in my opinion. But I get it would still be considered a concept from the artist point of view.
Remember when Dre's next album was supposed to be like a musical. I am not sure if I used the right term but you guys will probably remember. The album just took years to come out so it probably changed many times... But I wonder what was that concept about. Like all the rappers would have had a character on the album (Snoop, Em, Kendrick, Xzibit, etc.)? Or am I just interpreting an old news very wrongly lol?

I want him to make music that he feels truly inspired to make. Something honest. The album he wants to listen to. Whatever that might be. I feel like so much of the past ten years he's been trying to make the songs he thinks fans want to hear from him or what radio wants or what's trendy.
Even though I really like Recovery and MMLP2 they seem like artistic compromises and reactionary, like he's trying to check off boxes rather than make an album. I'm cool with whatever weird and challenging direction he takes it in as long as it represents his artistic growth.

Other rappers have said in a complimentary way that Eminem knows what it takes to get the radio to play your songs. Good advice for someone trying to make it in the industry. But another way to get the radio to play your tunes? BE EMINEM. He can set the rules now. I personally like Reovery and MMLP2 but they definitely felt very neat. Like you said, a completed checklist. Stan II--check. Fast talking lyrical prowess aka rappity rap--check. Homage to Beastie Boys and old school hip hop--check. Novelty song with celebrity references--check. It felt like the album of an old pro, which is not a bad thing or an unnatural thing. But for old school fans I think we want that intangible sense of hunger and urgency from his earlier years. At this point I don't know that expecting that is realistic.

At this point I don't know that expecting that is realistic. Exactly! You two put in words my feeling about Em's last years in the industry... I am not the biggest fan of MMLP2, I skip a lot of songs and I remember some of us were expecting it before the album with the first songs: Bezerk Beastie Boys, Survival sounding Recovery or at least 2010, Another Rihanna chorus for the radio (and I loved LTWYL), another Skylar Grey features (back when he was trying too hard to make her happen and we were tired of her) Then I still appreciated the album when I heard it because most of the rest of the album made sense with MMLP2 but now I think I can put my finger on why I prefer his old albums, it was just more cohesive!! I agree that he should just be Eminem! Set the rules and trust in his work and freakin legacy! I doubt the radio are ever going to snub his songs. I am sure many are tired of his "play safe, do the same songs" thing.

Well, as a testimony to EM, no one from Skrillex to Diplo to Tiesto, you get my drift, sampled anything off "Recovery," and "WTP" would have been the perfect example, and morphed it into a BPM masterpiece. Mind you, they may have asked for permission and where shut down by Paul.
