So I was driving back from my friends house (again) and I was flipping though the channels (again). Sometimes I listen to Country and Western music (love old C&W like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, waylon Jennings, etc)..anyway, as I was flipping through, I hear this:
She looks so pretty with no makeup on
You should hear her talkin' to her momma on phone
I love it when she raps to an Eminem song
That's my girl
Man her eyes really drive me crazy
You should see her smile when she holds a baby
I can honestly say that she saved me
My girl, yeah
wait..wha...did I just hear Eminem? In a country song? Yep, I did. I came home and found the song so I could listen to it all the way through. Here it is:

Something like that. In this video he says "that's a dollar for me" lol. Aww poor Marshy  always cracks me up! I also read somewhere that when they play a song on the radio, it's the songwriters that get paid, not the singer. Well in Em's case he's the songwriter too, so it makes no difference, but even then the songwriters only get was it like 30% of the money for playing the song. And I don't think a radio station pays THAT much to play a song on the radio. So imagine the singers that don't write their own songs.  |

Successful artists usually renegotiate their deals between each album to increase their royalties. Most major label artists would start making about or even less than a dollar per album sold back in the 90s, I know this from watching many Behind the Music episodes. But I imagine by now, he's probably making 2 or 3 dollars per album sold.

Most major label artists would start making about or even less than a dollar per album sold back in the 90s, I know this from watching many Behind the Music episodes. But I imagine by now, he's probably making 2 or 3 dollars per album sold. Yeah I think it said in this one article I read that the somg writers get like 30-40% of what the radio pays but since the radios don't pay that much, it could be around 40 cents the song writer gets paid. Man, what a salary and imagine Em's dream was to just get his songs to play on the radio and get recognition for that! So that could be around 2 dollars per day if it's a hit song lol! The article also mentioned that there are famous celebs like Britney or Rihanna, who don't make money from radio because they don't write their own songs. |

Publishing ownership is where it's at, money-wise, in the music industry. That's why Paul McCartney is still kicking himself for letting Michael Jackson buy the early Beatles music catalogue when Sir Paul was too cheap to spring the dough to buy it himself. Seriously, what was that man thinking?! Not!

If you buy an artist's CD they'll get money for it. If you buy a movie, the actor gets paid for it. Same with merch. Music celebs get tons of money for concerts and live shows. I mean didn't Em make 7 million in one night for the G-shock concert? For radio, it's the somgwriter that gets paid. I don't listen to Britney so no idea about her, she was just mentioned in the article I read, that she doesn't write her own songs. Rihanna I know doesn't write her own songs. She might have contributed to the writing in a few songs, but most of her songs are written by someone else. And a lot of her songs weren't even originally written for her. I'm a huge Ne-Yo fan and I know he has written many of Rihanna's songs. JT has written a few Rihanna songs too. |
