After reading the crypto articles about the ape stuff, income discussion made me wonder something.
Is all the current inflation impacting anyone else here? I can’t get over grocery prices.

I think I might finally be able to lose some weight bc I can't afford groceries anymore. I feel like whatever I buy and however I budget, one bag of stuff costs $70. One of my staples for years are those precooked bags ofchicken/steak strips, they used to run me about $6.99, now they're $14.92 per bag. With all the ingredients my formerly super cheap fajita go-to meal is officially as expensive as ordering takeout.

Everything but my pay has gone up 😀 I do find using store pickup helps me a bit because no chance of impulse seeing/buying.

For the past year or so I have been ordering DoorDash and GrubHub on almost a daily basis (anything from pizza to prime rib) and was barely going to the grocery store. Remember how Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex and the City" said she used her oven for sweaters only? That was me, until one day I looked at how much I had spent the previous month on delivery. I RAN to the grocery story and I was shocked how expensive groceries had become post Covid. My rationale now for occasionally ordering in is at least someone else is preparing my food and doing the extra work!

What’s crazy is when you do some price comparisons and I was shocked to realize how many of my deliveries/drive thru meals were actually cheaper than buying the ingredients myself! Upthread the frozen chicken strips were mentioned. I used to use those constantly for my salads. They jumped from $6 to $12!

By now it’s cheaper to buy a 12 dollar sub versus buying 60 bucks worth of stuff to make 3 sandwiches 🤦♀️

The only solution to saving money is to cook your own food. Yes, everything is expensive, but if you shop wisely and get away from frozen and cook fresh you'll be able to save, eat well and lose weight (with exercise)! I come from a family, on both sides, that didn't eat to live...They lived to eat! Raised a foodie, I prepare the evening meal, for that night if eating at home, first thing in the morning. When I get home all that has to be done is the cooking. Easy peasy! This being said, the US Fed has been raising the rate to curb inflation and it isn't working. I read a report today that stated that the US is still spending like no tomorrow. Go figure! But the fact that people are still spending, hasn't stopped the greedy corporations from hiking up the prices. Go figure...

Kind of makes me wonder coming off of Covid and so many people dying if people are like, what are we saving it for—tomorrow isn't promised. Covid definitely blind-sided people and its almost like they are in celebration mode, having survived Covid and free from lockdown.

Do you have problems with electricity prices? A lot of houses in finland are heated with electricity, and our prices have gone from 4-8cents/kWh to ~50cents/kWh… My colleague had calculated that their electricity price for 3 winter months will rise from around 300-400€ to 7000€ A lot of people will have to take loans to be able to pay their electricity…
