I'm wondering, again, who dresses like that to court? I would think she would dress a little more "professional" I guess is the word. I mean even Em wore a suit when he had to appear in court, even when it was divorce court. You would think her attorney would advise her to dress in something other than her lounging around clothes. Agree she looks like hell. But she may be doing that on purpose... Obviously I don't know a thing and hate to accuse her of manipulation, but if she looks like hell, the court might be more sympathetic of and willing to believe the reason she gave for crashing her car. OR, she may really feel so horrible and depressed that she doesn't give a damn about how she looks. She looked completely different when she's shown up to court in the past. Hope things start looking brighter to her soon. Can't be easy to suffer the death of your twin sister. Well, if she opts for a jury trial, which she probably shouldn't, then she needs to dress more appropriately. Like it or not, people judge you by how you look. This is why you see the most harden of harden criminals in a suit during their trial. If she shows up looking like she doesn't give a shit, a jury is likely to take that as she doesn't give a shit about the law and is likely to be a repeat offender. I know that she hasn't been in trouble with the law for over a decade, but this is like her 4 or 5th DUI. I think they couldn't reach a plea agreement because the DA is pushing for some jail time, given how many DUI's she has had.

I think the reason it's going to trial is because her lawyer was trying to fight the charges saying there were some issues with the way the situation was handled by police.
I agree that it would be best if she got a plea. Chances of a jury siding with her because of a technicality are very slim. For the sake of the family I hope it gets resolved quickly.

This article has a little bit more information. It's good to see they are still trying to reach a plea agreement. I thought the penalties for OWI would be worse than that. SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A drunken driving case allegedly involving Kim Mathers, the ex-wife of rapper Eminem, was adjourned until Oct. 18 following a brief hearing July 20 at 41-A District Court in Shelby Township. The matter was adjourned so both parties could continue plea negotiations. Paul Addis, legal counsel for Macomb Township, is the prosecuting attorney, and Michael Smith is defending Mathers.
The next hearing is date certain, which means a jury trial or plea agreement must occur that day.Mathers was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated on Oct. 7, 2015, after she crashed her 2009 Cadillac Escalade in a reportedly admitted suicide attempt. According to a report from the Macomb County Sherriff’s Office regarding incident, the debris field indicated that Mathers was traveling southbound on Card Road when the Escalade veered off the road to the right, struck a culvert, rolled and hit a utility pole near 23 Mile Road. Records indicate that Mathers was bleeding after the accident and sustained injuries to her right hand and foot. Documents also show that Mathers was wearing a seat belt, but reportedly told officers that she drank a fifth of rum before driving. Deputies were advised by a Macomb Township firefighter that Mathers allegedly told the firefighter that she drove off the road on purpose, which led him to believe she was suicidal. A motion to seal the case’s records was granted Jan. 19 before becoming unsealed April 28. Mathers remains a Macomb Township resident. The maximum penalty for OWI is a fine of up to $100 and/or imprisonment for up to 90 days.

The up to a $100 fine thing can't be true...I am in Washtenaw County not far from Macomb. My ex got a DUI. He was barely over the limit (legal limit in MI is .08, he was .091) and he paid literally thousands of dollars in fines plus court fees and had to go to mandatory AA for six months even though he's not an alcoholic. In addition to that his auto insurance costs skyrocketed and the DMV charged him, no exaggeration, $1000 every year for THREE YEARS just to keep his license. He also had to submit to random alcohol and drug testing (even though he wasn't arrested for drugs and had no drugs in his system) while he was on probation. Which was another thing...he had 8 months on probation. I am not speaking for or against harsh DUI sentencing...just saying this is the norm from what I know.
Other people I know who still had less alcohol than Kim got the "super drunk" DUI--this is a real thing, google it--and had to wear an ankle bracelet that would beep and call the police if it sensed alcohol in your system. Omg. If the $100 thing is true a lot of drunks are going to move to Macomb.

I would think that these penalties would apply at the state level so she's probably facing more than what that article said based on your experience.

Must be a typo. No way it's a "maximum penalty of $100." Lmao. You could pay more for a parking ticket.

I got a ticket for not having insurance and was out of town on the court date so I just paid the ticket. I got my license suspended and had to pay $250 a year for 3 years. Had I known that would have happened, i would have shown up for court and showed my insurance. But I imagine that her fine is way more than $100. I bet the DA is pushing for some jail time and her attorney is pushing for probation. If this goes to a jury, she is likely to be convicted and will have to serve some time in jail. Hope she can work out a deal before then.

Kim Mathers pleads no contest to drunken driving charge
SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Kim Mathers appeared in Shelby Township District Court 41-A Oct. 18 to plead no contest to a charge of operating a vehicle while visibly impaired to Judge Douglas Shepherd.
Mathers, the ex-wife of rapper Eminem, is facing the charge after crashing her 2009 Cadillac Escalade in a reportedly admitted suicide attempt. The crash took place Oct. 7, 2015, on Card Road near 23 Mile Road in Macomb Township.
The charge of operating while visibly impaired is a misdemeanor offense, punishable by up to 93 days in jail, a fine of up to $300 plus court costs, four points on a driver’s record, a 90 day restriction or suspension of a driver's license, possible vehicle immobilization, an alcohol treatment program and up to 45 days of community service.
Her sentencing date is Nov. 22.
According to a report from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the debris field indicated that Mathers was traveling southbound on Card when the Escalade veered off the road to the right, struck a culvert, rolled and hit a utility pole near 23 Mile Road.
19, before becoming unsealed April 28.
Mathers remains a Macomb Township resident.

Well it was kinda expected tho, wasn't it? I do feel sad for her tho. And what has she done now when she's on crutches? And another court date again. I don't know with this waiting, is it good or bad? I mean you'd want it to be over I guess, but at the same time, if she was to do jail time, you'd want the time before you go in to be stretched out... I feel for the whole family.
