Mariah Carey Tries to Make Peace With Eminem in the Most Mariah Carey Way Possible (EXCLUSIVE)
Maybe it's time to bury the hatchet in 2017! Mariah Carey and Eminem have been feuding for nearly 16 years but since things have been somewhat quiet between them since 2013, the "Touch My Body" singer thinks that now might be a good time to reconcile and make peace with each other — but sources exclusively reveal to Life & Style that Mariah is going about it in the most Mariah way possible!
“Mariah is trying to get in touch with Eminem,” a source tells Life & Style. “But she’ll only go so far. She had her camp reach out to Eminem’s people in the hope that he would call her. Only Mariah would say she wants to bury the hatchet with Eminem, then expect him to place the phone call."
Their feud dates back all the way to 2001 when Mariah met up with Eminem to talk about a possible collaboration for her 2002 album Charmbracelet — after which the pair allegedly had a brief fling. But even though Em — real name Marshall Mathers — didn't actually make it onto Mimi's record, she showed up on his in two separate references. On "Superman," he rapped "What you trying be? My new wife? / What, you Mariah? Fly through twice" and he said that he would "beg Mariah to take [him] back" before censoring himself on "When the Music Stops." He later confirmed that they had a relationship in a 2002 interview with Rolling Stone.
Mimi, 47, denied the relationship and she hit back at him on her 2002 song "Clown," where she sang that she"should've left it at I like your music too." They continued to take jabs at each other in the media, in their music, and on their concert tours. The last time Mariah threw shade at the 44-year-old rapper was in a 2013 interview on Watch What Happens Live — and now that it's been four years of silence, Em is weary about her intentions for extending an olive branch.
“Eminem’s camp smelled a possible publicity stunt. They said if Mariah called him, they’d get him on the phone," the source says, and this peace offering is at a stalemate. “Mariah’s people said she never calls anyone. Everyone goes to her.”
