I wonder what that fan said. Someone was booing when he said Detroit. Don't know if it was the same fan tho? Yeah you're probably right. Isn't it crazy how his whole attitude nearly completely changed in a year? 1999-2001 he was a wild angry loudmouth, then a year later during TES era he was more mature and grown up. Almost feels like different people when you compare 2001 Em to 2002 Em, I wonder what changed him.

Who knows. idk..part of me thinks he had a major image hall between mmlp and TES. I think he had someone start coaching him on how to interview and how to calm the fuck down. I remember Em said they were thinking of dropping him between SSLP and MMLP.. Then when MMLP was so successful i think his team (and his label) found out how valuable he actually was/is so they invested more in him and worked with him to make him more relatable to the general public.. I mean dont get me wrong. I am sure age had something to do with it but I also think people forget that Em is part of a brand and TES and 8 Mile was a huge changing point for Em. His team became a lot more involved then. Plus it was also the time that his team was covering a lot of his shit up more so than they did back in 1999. Think about it...Em was still technically living in a trailer when MMLP was being worked on. He went from "public figure" to "SUPERSTAR" around 30. When that happens handlers become more involved and more shit gets hidden...For example, Em said that during the VMAs when Christina Aguilera gave him his award and he fought with triumph the puppet dog he said he had a complete fit backstage in his dressing room and trashed it because he though people "were out to get him." We never heard about it until Em wrote about it in his book...that was around TES era. Does that seem like a dude that has his shit together? No...but no one knew about it...cuz his team kept it hush hush. Obviously he wasnt so wholesome as they portrayed around 2001 especially- since thats when his addiction started to get bad according to Em. He just had more people on his pay roll then...looking out for him/his image because his image makes them money... Also keep in mind that anderson cooper has said that Em is the most difficult celeb to interview because of his team...they are really involved and particular on the questions they asked him. Idk the older I get the older the more I am understanding how the industry works...and even though Em has a "I'm a regular chill person" reputation that does not mean that is actually true. I mean Anderson Cooper interviewed how many people? And he picked Em as the most difficult cuz his team is so controlling...that has to tell you something. Also wasnt it around Recovery when Em said "it may seem like my life has calmed down a lot but if you only knew..." Idk....Em is an enigma. Dont get me wrong. I do think he calmed down a lot especially being sober now...but i also think its a bit bias that Em fans dont really think that Em's public image isn't manipulated by his team at all. I just think they are REALLY good at working the system. Maybe Paul should get more credit after all....

Yeah, I think a lot of factors contributed to his change, all already mentioned, but I think also sobriety tbh. He got probation with random drug testing in 2001, and the court sent him to anger management classes. His ex wife also disappeared and was facing jail time and he got full custody of his kids and became a single parent to his little girls. I think he just HAD to mature at that time. The only change I'm wondering about is his voice, because that changed from 2001-2002 too. Very late puberty if it happened when he turned 30! Ahahahaha

I just think they are REALLY good at working the system. Maybe Paul should get more credit after all.... I agree that the image he portrays is not necessarily representative of how he acts in real life. I think what happened is Em had a don't give a fuck attitude about everything when he first came out. He was very open and candid about his opinions, his recreational drug use and just his life in general even in the presence of Paul or his publicist. So I don't think Paul or the label had much control over his public image at that point in time. I think they recognized that it was part of his appeal. Everything changed when he got on probation. It pushed him to substitute weed, mushrooms, ecstasy and alcohol with more prescription drugs. Because his freedom depended on it, he couldn't talk about being wild/his drug habits anymore, it became this big secret that his team had to help cover up and I think that's when Paul/his PR team/label gained more control over him. They had to maintain this image of a reformed man who has his shit together. But you could still tell he wasn't as calm as he wanted us to believe then because of his public emotional outbursts, like when he threatened to hit Moby at that same awards show you are referencing or the time that he called Mojo right after his Detroit concert in 2005 because people were complaining about waiting too long for his set. Because he barely does any appearances and everyone around him has signed a confidentiality agreement, it's hard to tell what he is really like these days. The next big public change was when he came back with Relapse, suddenly he didn't want to share anything about his life and that's when you started hearing more people talk about how controlling/overbearing his team is. I think there is many factors that came into play, him being more mature and wanting to protect his kids by trying not to attract more attention to his private life being a major factor. And I think he has learned to appreciate being sheltered by his team during his hiatus. I don't believe that Em is brainwashed and just following orders. If anything, I think his team is being super difficult with the media because they go above and beyond to accommodate his request of not wanting to discuss certain topics. In my experience, people who work for powerful people tend to make a bigger deal of out a simple request out of fear of disappointing/angering said powerful person.

In my experience, people who work for powerful people tend to make a bigger deal of out a simple request out of fear of disappointing/angering said powerful person. I totally agree. And here is the thing...Em was not sober during his probation period. In fact thats when shit started to catch up with him especially during 8 Mile. Did jenny say that he did "special favors" for his probation officer? But like you said it did cause him to change his image because he couldn't be acting crazy in risk of losing everything. I mean listen to the last few seconds of The Realest... "still watch what you say to me because I am off of probation in less than 6 months!" Does that sound like a man that learned his lesson? hahaha. Also yes I think he wanted to start protecting his kids more but I also think Kim and his kids told him to stop talking about them in his music especially after the second divorce. And agree he anchored again during Relapse...I kind of do feel bad for his team. Dude went from a spontaneous dude who would spit on people who looked at him the wrong way, then he went into his diva phase, then his gangsta phase when 50 came along, and then his drug addicted zombie phase, then his shy to almost paranoid/award phase..then finally he is the Em we know now. I mean if you think about it that must have been exhausting for his team to keep up lmao. And yeah I dont think he is an zombie either..but I do think he is a naive to what is going on and likes things to be a certain way and if it doesnt go the way he like he gets upset/anxious. But the thing is if his team quits coddling him maybe he wouldn't freak out over small things being out of his control. Course thats just my perspective of his personality. I remember one time when he was during promo he left a hotel room and didnt have his head phones on and there were a lot of people out there screaming his name. Em looked pissed and his bodyguard said something like they weren't expecting fans to be there. But they other times fans were outside of his hotel during that promo era Em had his head phones on and seemed cool with the fans because he was prepared for them. idk just my two cents. Em is a strange little dude haha

As far as I'm concerned EMs his own worst enemy. I think he's super paranoid and phobic about a lot of things in life that most people take for granted; he's like a scared little boy. It's obvious that he doesn't do well integrating with the "real" world and he seems to live in a kinda mass hysteria bubble. There are mega stars who go grocery shopping, with or without a bodyguard, eat out at restaurants all the time, drive themselves to the gym and seem to have no problem living a semi-normal life. But not our EMzy...He's an anomaly!

I kinda agree..I mean he is living like he is Elvis Presley (who really couldn't go out in public) but this is a different time...Celebs are a dime a dozen...you are hot when you album or movie is out, three weeks later they are on to the next one. I mean when Adele album came out last year and broke all kinds of sale records..she is all they talked about for weeks then all of a sudden..nothing..they moved on to someone else...Drake or Beyonce or someone, then that died out and they moved on to someone else...it is an endless circle.. He lives in Detroit I mean I doubt any professional Pap's live there...and I think there has only been two times I have seen "candid pap shots" of Em, the one time he had the accident and then that time he was working out with Tracey. I know the accident was in Detroit but I think the workout ones were in California. I am starting to think this whole "I live in a bubble and have no life" is just an image created by either Paul or Em to give him the illusion of mystery.

Here's a video of Royce on the Wendy Williams show from a few months back. I hadn't seen it and he talks about his family and they show a picture, which I have never seen. She also brings up his sex tape. He also says that Em is the one who "discovered" him. huh?

I agree also, the Paul/Em "relationship" reminds me of the Colonel/ Elvis relationship. The Colonel had complete control over Elvis and besides Elvis's dad, he was the only one that told him what to do. Very Creepy
